Bit-O-Honey

Isn't it great when the pieces all come together... and you haven't had to try that hard?  We think so, which is why it was so lovely when Gold + Bee was introduced to a very talented and creative photographer at a recent bash.  We didn't even know we were looking for someone to preserve our gorgeous moments until we saw Elizabeth Sullivan perfectly capture a G+B party through her lens.  She was there promptly at every special moment to get the shots that everyone wants AND get the ones that you see on your favorite blogs/magazines and wish you had.  You know what I mean?  We recently sat down with Elizabeth and learned a little about her journey, about what inspires her, what styles of photography she loves, and what her plans are for the future.

We hope to have some help from Elizabeth on future events.  She has a sharp eye for detail and shares a similar aesthetic as G + B.  We will keep you updated with more news about Gold + Bee photography options in the near future.

Have a splendid weekend!

What heat wave? Zoe's Cool Pool Party!

*
Last Friday’s forecast called for 97 degrees and thunder showers......so you can imagine our concern as we prepared for Zoe’s Rainbow Pool Party.  However, the high temps were no match for the cool and colorful scene we designed for the pool area. Mother Nature heard our prayers and luckily t-storms started moving into Newton as we finished cleaning up!
Zoe celebrated her 6th birthday 2 months early, so that her friends could attend before summer vacations started ....and what fun they had! The pool was the star of this show.  The girls splashed happily, jumped off the diving board, and floated on noodles.  Jen Marchio, swimming instructor/ lifeguard extraordinaire, was on hand with in-pool entertainment and made sure everyone stayed safe.  Other activities included jump roping, hula hooping, sidewalk chalk drawing and water balloons tossing (mostly at Zoe’s dad, who was such a good sport, getting soaked all  day).

We set the pool area with a healthy mix of Gold+Bee’s signature handmade decor and kitschy poolside props (we just couldn’t say no to the lawn flamingoes!). The magic of this party was in all the little details. Tiny mismatched wooden chairs and 3 kid-sized tables were set feast style with plenty of streamers and bows. At each place setting, guests received a purple sequined "mermaid crown", beach "goody bucket" filled with colorful squirt toys, rainbow sunglasses and lollipops.  Vintage pastel melamine plates, turquoise napkins and purple forks were set atop a white paper runner with crayons so that the girls could color as they feasted.  As centerpieces, we half-filled antique milk bottles with skittles to display hand stamped muslin “Hooray” flags for guests to wave as Zoe blew out her candles.

For décor, Sonal made her longest bunting yet, in a scalloped design, that hung along the back fence, framing the scene with a sense of girlish whimsy.   Beneath a giant shady tree, adorned in bright tissue poofs, we set the tie dye rainbow refreshment table and the gift cart.  The girls munched on savory snacks served in pink flamingo and grosgrain ribbon buckets, and were served fresh lemonade to keep them hydrated! Other special treats included a trifle bowl filled with rainbow fruit salad, chocolate mermaid cake with a “Zoe – Hooray” cake topper, and individual rainbow cakes baked in mason jars and topped with cocktail umbrellas.

Around the pool itself, we set bunches of pastel rainbow balloons, enormous flower shaped pinwheels (that looked super cool as they spun in the breeze), and of course, the pink lawn flamingoes (that remind Zoe’s mom of old people in California!).  This party was so cool, we didn’t even notice the heat wave!

* a giant Thank You to the very talented Elizabeth Sullivan, who endured the high temperatures to captured timeless moments with photography!!!
Cheers and happy party planning,

Bit-O-Honey

hey there... sorry for not posting this yesterday but oh my... Gold + Bee was so beat after all the fun from the big bash at Miss Zoe's house.  G +B helped throw a rainbow pool party for a cute little 6 year old.  We will be posting Elizabeth's photos next week so please stay tuned.  You won't be sorry!

The kids and I stole away for a few days this week (now that summer vacation is here) and headed for another pool on Long Island.  Needless to say, my kids had lots of fun playing in Nan and Nani's house and splashing in the pool.  It was a little shocking to watch my skinny little Ami easily glide into the cold water while I was barely able to stick my toe in...

look who can make pooris!
we came back on Thursday and quickly got to work on items for the Rainbow Pool Party!

My sweet little Ami decided to make her bed today.  What do you think?  I love it!

Have a spectacular weekend! xoxo sonal

Pretty in Pink Barnyard Party

Let us start off by saying that Gold+Bee absolutely adores an at-home celebration (if you haven't already noticed). There is something so nostalgic and intimate about them. This is why we were so THRILLED to work with Charlotte's mom, Gabrielle, on the baby animal party with Lily Pulitzer inspired color and decor for their backyard party!

Charlotte's house is set on a gorgeous property, so it wasn't hard to make it look pretty. For the upper deck, where guests would be enjoying lunch and cake, we created a canopy of pink tissue pom-poms, big green balloons, and a delicate pennant bunting.  For the dining space, we brought in pink and green floral blankets, for kids to eat picnic style.

A vintage dresser and bamboo bar cart were set for cake and sweets displays. Charlotte's aunt made the cake for which we provided the topper (teeny tissue pom poms and tiny pink and muslin bunting). The cupcakes were adorned with green and pink paper flags on swizzle sticks.  Melissa hand frosted animal crackers with a delicious lemon icing and displayed them in little metal pails for snacking.

Along the fence we set up a photo booth, with black satin backdrop, white wicker couch, bales of hay, and plenty of stuffed animals and silly props to keep the pint sized guests entertained. The photos of the whole group together were priceless!

As guests arrived they were given tiny handmade paper crowns and invited into the playpen with 2 baby goats, a lamb, 5 ducklings, 5 chicks, 4 bunnies, and most importantly, Vivian the piglet!!! Animal Craze did an amazing job with the animals and children, we were very impressed!

The main deck was set as a drink station, with a giant mason jar dispenser of strawberry lemonade, and antique milk bottles filled with pink peonies and green hydrangeas beneath the umbrella.

After lunch and cake, guests departed with muslin goody bags stuffed with chupa-chups lollipops, rubber duckies dressed as barnyard animals, tractor and rooster shaped crayons and hand made piggy hair clips!

Please enjoy some of the stunning photos of the day, taken by the talented Elizabeth Sullivan of Newton, MA.

Cheers and happy party planning!
