Beer'd - Marty's Surprise 40th B-Day Bash

Saturday was a day to remember... Marty went to work early and while he slaved away Gold + Bee was getting the stage set for the big surprise bash.  For months we have been planning the details and getting ready... so we were excited for it to finally arrive!

This perfect fall day was crisp but warm, sunny and energized.  The venue was the back patio of an old wagon factory, which has in recent years become a hip urban condo building in the heart of Jamaica Plain, MA.  It happens to be the home of Gold's twin... so we were fortunate to have access to it.  The space (above) was a great mix of industrial, brick, metal, and cement but also with a lush oasis ensconced with vegetation.

We created 4 outdoor spaces for the guests, a living room containing a comfy old victorian sofa draped with a lumberjack plaid thro and 2 side chairs surrounded with a fun beer/beard decor framed with a cashmere bunting, a bar area with an old wooden ladder laden with birthday boy memorabilia, a lounge for the band to play, and a lush alcove for the food and cake.

As the party theme suggests, we served Beer as the only beverage for the evening.  Since Marty is a beer geek, we selected four superb craft beers from different categories (a pilsner, a pale ale, a dark belgian ale and local white wheat beer).  The food was carefully selected to compliment the beers, and served on rustic wooden boards. A selection of meats, fine cheeses and local seasonal fruits were served with hearty breads and pretzels and a menagerie of mustard dips.

The vibe of the party was fun, casual, and whimsical... exactly what G+B is about.  There was a delightful performance of Yakity Yak (by the coasters) by the kiddos, a plentiful supply of beards on sticks for people to accessorize with, some chalkboard art highlighting the theme of the night, and a cute little doggie who decided to join the party.
